Elle parvint à se faire admettre, suite à un entretien, à l'Ecole Préparatoire aux Humanités, une école publique (conception US de public school)) de Manhattan. Tout en tirant toujours le diable par la queue et vivant sur le petit capital qu'elle avait amassé, elle réussit à boucler le programme des quatre années en deux ans avec une moyenne générale supérieure à 16.
